Discover the Charm of Maryland

Located south of Pennsylvania and north of Viriginia, the state of Maryland is a very worthwhile inclusion on your eastern USA itinerary, with a unique blend of history and adventure, and best loved for its myriad waterways and miles of coast along the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

The state capital Annapolis, has been called “America’s prettiest city”  and for a reason! Located on Chesapeake Bay, its historic district includes 18th-century houses and the domed 1700s Maryland State House, and on Church Circle, St. Anne’s Episcopal Church is well worth a visit with its Tiffany glass windows. Along the extensive waterfront you’ll find beaux arts architecture, monuments and a naval history museum.

Nearby Baltimore, is known as Charm City. The city is where you can see the largest public collection of Matisse in the world all for free, sip a craft beer in the sanctuary of a converted church, and stay in a four-star hotel on the historic recreation pier. Here you will also find one of the most impressive collections of military vessels in the world. The Historic Ships collection includes four fascinating historic boats and a unique 1856 lighthouse with views of the Baltimore Harbor. You can immerse yourself in the arts at the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Walters Art Museum, the American Visionary Art Museum or the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. When you need a rest from sightseeing, the highlight of the food scene in Baltimore is fresh Chesapeake Bay crabs and seafood, but also a massive range of eateries from historic public markets and food halls to award-winning chefs.

Moving out into the rolling hills of the Catoctin Mountains, you will find the historic town of Frederick, steeped in American Civil War history. It’s also home to a walkable downtown with an array of independent boutiques and dozens of restaurants. Sip and sample at wineries, breweries, and distilleries. Frederick County offers a blend of history and adventure such as the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and scenic hiking trails.

For an unforgettable escape, head to Assateague Island National Seashore, known for wild ponies and pristine beaches.

Dorchester County allows visitors to experience history and nature in their most authentic forms. Explore the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park or boat through Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.

Talbot County boasts charming waterfront towns. Cruise the Choptank River, indulge in local seafood, or enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Oxford.
