Overview

A motorhome holiday gives you the freedom to explore some of the most beautiful parts of North America at your own pace. Unpack your bags just the once, then set off for your adventure along the coast, through awe-inspiring landscapes and staying in some of the most beautiful locations. This is just a suggested itinerary for your motorhome holiday - you are free to choose where and when you stop. Day 1

Los Angeles

Arrive in Los Angeles and check into the airport hotel for a relaxing night before your road trip.

Day 2

Los Angeles – Santa Margarita (240 miles)

After picking up your motorhome in Los Angeles, head north up the coast to the American Riviera and the smart resort of Santa Barbara, a great place to stop for lunch by the sea. Continuing northbound, you will arrive in Santa Margarita where you could spend your first night

Days 3 & 4

Santa Margarita – San Francisco (250 miles)

Enjoy the amazing coastal scenery as you drive up the Big Sur, making a stop at Hearst Castle. You could end your journey today at the gorgeous seaside resort of Monterey, to enjoy some relaxing time on the beach. Alternatively, continue to the bright lights of San Francisco for a couple of days in and around this exciting city where there are several campgrounds to choose from, with the Petaluma RV Park a good option.

Day 5 & 6

San Francisco – Yosemite National Park (190 miles)

Head towards your first National Park of the trip, the wonderful wilderness of Yosemite. There’s a campsite just on the edge of the park - the Yosemite Mariposa KOA - and a two night stay here is recommended to be able to explore this spectacular area in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. You can hire bikes or go on a rafting trip to see the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome. You can walk along the trails to see the ancient giant sequoias and stunning waterfalls.

Day 7

Yosemite National Park – Sequoia National Park - Fresno/Visalia (260 miles)

It’s worth an early start today so that you can reach the beautiful Sequoia National Park with time to climb Moro Rock for commanding views of the great western divide. Explore the giant forest of trees and marvel at the grandeur of General Sherman – the biggest tree on the planet. A suggested overnight stop is in the Fresno or Visalia area.

Days 8 & 9

Fresno area – Las Vegas (260 miles)

Temporarily leave behind the natural beauty of the National Parks and head to the man-made entertainments of Las Vegas. It’s a long drive today, but worth it when you reach this capital of fun. There is a campsite right on The Strip, so you won’t have to go far to find the rollercoasters and attractions. There are several RV parks in and around Las Vegas, so choose the one best suited to you and your party.

Day 10

Las Vegas – Zion National Park (195 miles)

From one extreme to another, you will now head to the stunningly beautiful Zion National Park – so named by the first settlers who saw this as the “promised land”.  Here you can explore on horseback along the Canyon Trail Rides. Or perhaps hike up to Angels Landing for a 360 degree view of the spectacular landscape. There is a campsite at Glendales just 30 miles northeast of Zion.

Day 11

Zion – Bryce Canyon National Park (50 miles)

Today you will travel to a totally different landscape. Bryce Canyon is filled with amazing stone structures sculpted over thousands of years into spires, arches, mazes and fantastical shapes known as “hoodoos”. Here you can choose to go hiking, biking or horseback riding. The Cannonville / Bryce Valley campsite is located 12 miles from the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park.

Day 12

Bryce National Park – Lake Powell – Flagstaff (285 miles)

Today continue your road trip south to Flagstaff, with a fabulous stop en route at Lake Powell. The shores of this beautiful lake stretch longer than the west coast of the USA, and is a haven of watersports, so enjoy some fun in the sun whilst cooling down in the water. A good location to overnight is Flagstaff.

Day 13

Grand Canyon National Park (45 miles)

Journey to the Grand Canyon to marvel at this the seventh wonder of the natural world. At 18 miles wide and 1 mile deep, the scale of the landscape will take your breath away. If you have time, it is worth spending a second night here, to be able to appreciate the Grand Canyon from different vantage points, or even take a helicopter ride to get a bird’ eye view. If you stay at the Williams KOA, you can take advantage of the live Western music, hayrides, bike rentals and horse riding on offer.

Day 14

Grand Canyon – Mojave National Preserve (340 miles)

There are various stops en route to Barstow, to break up this relatively long stretch, such as Kingman on Route 66, before you reach the Mojave National Preserve.

Day 15

Mojave – Los Angeles (150 miles)

The final stretch of your trip, drop off your motorhome and head to the airport for your flight home.
