Day 1
Arrive in Atlanta
Fly to Atlanta and transfer independently to your hotel where you will meet your Tour Director.

Day 2
Atlanta
Beginning your holiday with a city tour of Atlanta, including the childhood home of Martin Luther King. You will also learn about another famous resident Margaret Mitchell, writer of Gone with the Wind. Visit the Stately Oaks Plantation, inspiration for the plantation in the film, and the “Road to Tara” museum, where you will be able to see memorabilia from the film including the costumes worn by Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. This evening enjoy a welcome reception.

Day 3
Atlanta – Augusta – Charleston
Leave Atlanta this morning and journey west to Augusta, the second oldest city in Georgia and home to the prestigious Masters golf tournament. Later in the afternoon you will arrive into the charming and historic town of Charleston.

Day 4
Charleston – Antebellum Plantation – Savannah
This morning, enjoy a locally guided walking tour of Charleston, through the beautifully preserved historic district. In the afternoon there is an optional tour of Boone Hall Plantation with its famous Avenue of Oaks. Then travel to Savannah, visiting en route Port Royal Island and Beaufort South Carolina’s second oldest city. It’s beautiful Antebellum architecture has been backdrop for many films including Forrest Gump.

Day 5
Savannah
You have a full day to enjoy the charms of Savannah, once the worlds largest cotton port, when cotton was King. Savannah was spared the ravages of the Civil War and you will be able to stroll the buildings around the tree-shaded squares, dating back hundreds of years.

Day 6
Savannah – Montgomery
Travel west into the heart of the Deep South and the state of Alabama. You’ll arrive in Montgomery, the state capital and central to the American Civil Rights Movement. Visit the Rosa Parks Library and Museum and learn all about the Montgomery Bus Boycott. You may also want to visit the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church.

Day 7
Montgomery – Selma – New Orleans
Head to Selma Alabama, another town central to the Civil Rights Movement. Here you will visit the Edmund Pettis Bridge where the historic march from Selma to Montgomery begin and where the brutal evens of Bloody Sunday took place. Then continue south through Mississippi to New Orleans. This city is a unique blend of French, Spanish, Caribbean and African cultures, which you will discover through the food, the music and the architecture. You could choose an optional Riverboat Dinner Cruise to enjoy the rhythms of a Dixieland jazz band this evening.

Day 8
New Orleans
A full day at leisure to experience the charms of New Orleans. There is an optional excursion to a working plantation. Or simply stroll the French Quarter, admiring the lovely buildings with wrought iron balconies and soaking up the atmosphere.

New Orleans departure
Independent transfer to the airport for your flight home
