Spectacular AlaskaSet off from Anchorage for a tour of Alaska, travelling through the Matanuska Valley and across the Tahnita Pass to the coastal port of Valdez. Cruise Prince William Sound to Columbia Glacier then head for Fairbanks to pan for gold and cruise down the Tanana and Chena Rivers. Move onto Denali National Park, to see Mount McKinley - the highest mountain in North America. Head back south to Anchorage and then take to sea again to cruise through the Kenai Fjords National Park. There is also an optional trip flying to Barrow, the northernmost settlement on the North American mainland, well within the Arctic Circle.

Tour Itinerary

DAY 1 - ANCHORAGE
Arrive in Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, transfer to your hotel and meet your tour director in the early evening.
DAY 2 - ANCHORAGE - VALDEZ
Join your travelling companions at a morning welcome orientation meeting before setting off on your tour of Alaska, passing through the Matanuska Valley and the town of Palmer. Produce can grow to enormous sizes in the area's 24-hour summer daylight. Continue over the Tahnita Pass, where you will be treated to panoramic views of Matanuska and Worthington Glacier. Take a break at Bridal Veil Falls on the way to Valdez. One of Alaska's most important ports, Valdez is backed by magnificent mountains and is where the oil from the Trans-Canada Pipeline is loaded onto ships. (B,D)
DAY 3 - VALDEZ. CRUISE ON PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND
Head to sea to CRUISE Prince William Sound and follow the three-mile face of Columbia Glacier. Look out for sea otters, seals, birdlife and even whales, and pass the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Terminal before returning for a second night in Valdez. (B,L)
DAY 4 - VALDEZ - DELTA JUNCTION - FAIRBANKS
Pass fantastic scenery along the Richardson Highway, with a stop at DELTA JUNCTION living history homestead, which comprises an original roadhouse, museum and farm animals. Head on west on the Alaska Highway to arrive in the state's second-largest city, Fairbanks. (B,D)
DAY 5 - FAIRBANKS
Take a trip to EL DORADO GOLD MINE, where you can pan for gold, ride the narrow-gauge railroad and enter the mine's permafrost tunnel. Later you will board the sternwheeler Discovery to CRUISE on the Tanana and Chena Rivers, stopping at Chena Indian Village to get an insight into the Athabascan Native culture. You will also be able to meet Iditarod mushers and their famous dog sled teams to learn about the world of training, breeding and the big race itself. (B)
Arctic Circle Adventure. This optional adventure excursion is available from Fairbanks on day five - book in advance to ensure availability. Fly north through the rugged Brooks Mountain range, and cross the Arctic Circle to touch down, surrounded by tundra, with a visit to a wilderness community to learn about the region's unique way of life. Return by air to Fairbanks and receive an Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. You will also enjoy a traditional salmon bake at Pioneer Park during the tour.
DAY 6 - FAIRBANKS - DENALI NATIONAL PARK
Travel by train aboard the ALASKA RAILROAD to journey through untamed wilderness, ending in the six-million-acre DENALI NATIONAL PARK, dominated by North America's highest mountain - Denali, or Mount McKinley, which rises to 6,194 metres (20,320 feet). Spend the evening at the DENALI DINNER THEATER to enjoy song, dance and delicious food. (B,D)
DAY 7 - DENALI NATIONAL PARK
A free morning to spend at leisure, or to join an optional activity like a helicopter ride over Denali or a trip down the River Nenana. In the afternoon you will embark upon a WILDERNESS EXPEDITION to search for grizzly bear, moose, caribou and other wildlife. (B)
DAY 8 - DENALI NATIONAL PARK - ANCHORAGE
Continue exploring Denali National Park on the way back south to Anchorage, stopping at the IDITAROD HEADQUARTERS, base for the epic dog-sled races. Later you will take a CITY SIGHTSEEING TOUR of Anchorage and in the evening join your tour director and fellow travellers for a special GLOBUS FAREWELL CELEBRATION DINNER. (B,D)
DAY 9 - ANCHORAGE. CRUISE IN KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK
Drive along the south shore of the Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic routes in North America, to arrive in Seward where you will board your boat to CRUISE the KENAI FJORDS NATIONAL PARK, to witness glaciers calving into the ocean, and spot humpback whales, orcas, sea otters and other wildlife. DAY 10 - ANCHORAGE
End your Alaska tour today, with airport transfers provided.
