Parks " Lodges of the Classic WestThis ten-day tour of the west's classic towns and parks starts in Rapid City in South Dakota, and moves through Badlands National Park and Custer State Park, where you will enjoy a chuck waggon cookout and embark on a buffalo safari. In Hot Springs tour the largest discovery of mammoth remains in the world before stopping at the monumental mountainside carvings of the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore.

Then it's onto the quintessential wild west town of Deadwood, a visit to an authentic western ranch and an overnight stop in Cody to see the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. In Yellowstone National Park stay at Old Faithful Lodge next to the famous geyser, then admire the Grand Teton National Park en route to the classic western mountain resort of Jackson.

Tour Itinerary

DAY 1 - RAPID CITY
Arrive in Rapid City, South Dakota, the Gateway to the Black Hills. Join your Tour Director and travelling companions for an evening WELCOME RECEPTION, where you will find out more about the tour of the west to come. (WR)
DAY 2 - RAPID CITY-BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK-CUSTER STATE PARK
Take a morning orientation tour of Rapid City, known as the Star of the West, dominated by nearby Harney Peak, at 2,207 metres the highest mountain in North America east of the Rockies. Visit BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK to see some of the region's most dramatic scenery and then explore Wall Drug, with its quirky roadside signs and free water. Later you will enjoy a BUFFALO SAFARI and CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT and then overnight in Custer State Park at the historic State Game Lodge, which was used by President Coolidge and known as the Summer White House. DAY 3 - CUSTER STATE PARK
Travel onwards to Hot Springs and see the largest MAMMOTH SITE in the world, where scientists are still uncovering the remain of the wooly mammoths that were trapped and died in the lake here over 26,000 years ago. You'll take a short tour, see the palaeontology lab and have time to walk around the dig area. The rest of the day is free to spend as you choose. Go hiking or mountain biking or try some fishing. DAY 4 - CUSTER STATE PARK-DEADWOOD
Visit the CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, one of the world's largest stone monuments, dedicated to the warrior famous from the Battle of Little Bighorn. It is close to MOUNT RUSHMORE, another monumental sculpture, where the faces of presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln are carved into the granite hillside. After lunch travel to Deadwood, once a wild frontier town and haunt of legendary characters like Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok, who were both laid to rest on Boot Hill. Spend the night at the picturesque Spearfish Canyon Lodge. (B,L,D)
DAY 5 - DEADWOOD-U-CROSS RANCH-CODY
Drive across Spearfish Canyon and through Wyoming's plains, taking lunch at a traditional WESTERN RANCH, where you can also have a go at horse riding, fly-fishing, or cool off in the pool. Cross the Bighorn Mountains via Shell Creek Canyon to Cody, named after wild west bison hunter and showman Buffalo Bill Cody. (B,L)
DAY 6 - CODY-YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
Learn all about the west's frontier days at Cody's BUFFALO BILL HISTORIC CENTER, which has a remarkable collection of wild west artefacts. Leave Cody to enter YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, the first national park area in the world. You will stay at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel, listed on the Register of Historic Places and on the scenic banks of Yellowstone Lake. (B,D)
DAY 7 - YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
TOUR the park, taking in Yellowstone's canyon with its Upper and Lower Falls, the herds of bison in Hayden Valley and of course the geysers and geothermic sites like Old Faithful. Overnight at historic Old Faithful Lodge, one of the world's largest log houses sited adjacent to the famous geyser. (B,D)
DAY 8 - YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK-GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK-JACKSON
MOve on from Yellowstone to tour GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK, home to the snow-capped Teton mountains, bordering Jenny and Jackson Lakes. Continue onwards to Jackson, Wyoming, a western mountain resort, with a free afternoon and evening. Watch a re-enacted shoot out in Town Square or join the optional excursion to Bar-T-Five for a Wild West show and wagon cookout. (B)
DAY 9 - JACKSON
CHOOSE YOUR EXPERIENCE - A GLOBUS PLATINUM EXCLUSIVE. Choose how to spend your day, selecting a guided tour of the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WILDLIFE ART or joining a guided BOAT TRIP down the Snake River. Head for a local restaurant in the evening for the GLOBUS FAREWELL CELEBRATION DINNER to end the journey in style with your tour director and fellow travellers. (B,D)
DAY 10 - JACKSON
After a leisurely breakfast, the tour comes to an end. Airport transfers are included. (B)
