Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota
Start in Rapid City, the Gateway to the Black Hills, and visit the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Tour the western towns of Deadwood and Tatanka and explore the Little Bighorn Battlefield. Learn more about the west's pioneering days at the Buffalo Bill Historical Centre and then move onto the natural beauty of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.
Stop at the mountain resort of Jackson before heading for Salt Lake City and then marvelling at the stunning rock formations of the Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. Continue to Arizona and across the Painted Desert to reach the Grand Canyon before a stint on the celebrated Route 66 on the way to the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Tour Itinerary
- DAY 1 - RAPID CITY
- Start your Parks and Canyons tour in Rapid City, South Dakota, set against the Black Hills and next to the 2,207-metre Harvey Peak, the highest mountain east of the Rockies in North America. The city is split in two by the Dakota Hogback hills. Join your fellow travellers at an evening WELCOME RECEPTION, where your tour director will prepare you for the forthcoming trip. (WR)
- DAY 2 - RAPID CITY
- Start the day by visiting the CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL, built to honour the Sioux chief made famous from his bravery at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Although unfinished, it will be the world's largest sculpture when completed. Afterwards you will have a chance to see the MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, another monumental mountain carving, which shows the faces of four US presidents - Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt. Walk along the Presidential Trail to catch even better views. (B)
- DAY 3 - RAPID CITY - SHERIDAN
- Drive through the BLACK HILLS NATIONAL FOREST and learn about the region's colourful past with a tour of DEADWOOD, which found fame as a gold-mining town attracting characters like Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok. Head on to TATANKA for an introduction into the rich local Plains Indian Lakota culture and to hear 'The Story of the Bison'. Move on through the Black Hills to Sheridan, a cattle town in the shadow of the Bighorn Mountains. (B,D)
- DAY 4 - SHERIDAN - LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD - CODY
- Journey into southern Montana with a trip to LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD, which commemorates one of the country's most notoroius battles, where General Custer was defeated by a combined force of some 7,000 Cheyenne, Lakota and Arapaho warriors. Keep on across the Bighorn Mountains, with a break at Shell Falls on your way for an overnight stop in Cody, where you will be able to take an optional boat trip down the River Shoshone. (B)
- DAY 5 - CODY - YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
- Learn about the west's rich heritage at the BUFFALO BILL HISTORICAL CENTRE, then its off via Shoshone National Forest to YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK. Yellowstone was the world's first national park, founded in 1872. Take the Grand Loop road to Artist Point on the park's south rim for some fine views of the Lower Falls and Yellowstone Canyon. Lower Falls are almost twice the height of the more famous Niagara Falls. Stop at Fountain Paint Pots, with its bubbling mud springs, and then loop around, via Old Faithful Geyser, to your overnight hotel. (B,D)
- DAY 6 - YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK - JACKSON
- From Yellowstone you will drive south to enter GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK to see its magnificent snow-capped peaks. You will take a gentle shoreside walk along the glacier-fed Jenny Lake before arriving in the all-western mountain resort of Jackson, Wyoming. Spend the evening at the BAR-T-5 CHUCK WAGON COOKOUT for dinner and a wild west show. (B,D)
- DAY 7 - JACKSON
- Free day to spend in and around Jackson, where you can stroll the resort's downtown boardwalks and enjoy a drink at one of the traditional wild west swing-door saloons. (B)
- DAY 8 - JACKSON - SALT LAKE CITY
- Pass some of Wyoming's most scenic mountains on the way to Utah, to arrive in Salt Lake City, founded by Brigham Young in 1847, pioneer of the Mormon Faith. Salt Lake City remains the centre of the religion and a tour take in the city's historic monuments and sights. (B)
- DAY 9 - SALT LAKE CITY - BRYCE CANYON
- Move on through sagebrush landscape to the BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK, with its thousands of 'hoodoos' - multi-hued stoned pillars and spires, eroded by the elements over the years. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the park further, which has many hiking trails and viewpoints. Your overnight hotel is at the entrance to the park. (B,D)
- DAY 10 - BRYCE CANYON - ZION NATIONAL PARK - LAKE POWELL
- From Bryce Canyon you will travel to another theatre of dramatic rock formations, ZION NATIONAL PARK, full of soaring cliffs and sculptured canyons that look like cathedrals and temples. The early Mormon settlers dubbed the area 'Little Zion'. A sightseeing tour will let you experience some of its sights up close before the tour continues into Arizona and the shores of Lake Powell. Stop in the town of Page to take an afternoon cruise on the lake to admire Antelope Canyon's 'tapestry walls' and the towering Glen Canyon Dam. (B,D)
- DAY 11 - LAKE POWELL - PAINTED DESERT - GRAND CANYON
- There is an optional flight over Monument Valley in the morning. Catch a bird's eye view of the red sandstone mesas and buttes, made famous by countless westerns. Next up, you'll cross the Painted Desert to arrive at the GRAND CANYON in the afternoon, with ample time to explore the canyon's rim and take an evening stroll as the sun sets dramatically. (B,D)

- DAY 12 - GRAND CANYON - LAS VEGAS

- Your American tour comes to an end this morning, with transfers provided to Las Vegas Airport for your homeward flight. (B)
