Move on to the shores of Lake Huron to catch the ferry to beautiful Mackinac Island, where motor cars are banned. Travel by horse-drawn carriage and stay at the opulent and historic Grand Hotel.
After two nights on the island head along the Upper Michigan peninsula for a boat trip through the Soo Locks that connect Lakes Huron and Superior. Next you'll stay at the stylish Bay Harbor resort on Lake Michigan, visit a cherry orchard on the way to Grand Rapids, and end your trip with a tour of bustling Chicago.

Tour Itinerary
- DAY 1 - DETROIT/DEARBORN
- Arrive in the Dearborn district of Detroit, Michigan, and the Great Lakes region. Get to know your tour director and travelling companions at the evening WELCOME RECEPTION, where you will meet your travelling companions and be fully briefed on your forthcoming adventure. (WR)
- DAY 2 - DEARBORN - FRANKENMUTH
- Get an insight into the history of the American automobile industry, with a tour of the WALTER P CHRYSLER MUSEUM, which exhibits vehicles from a 1902 Rambler to the latest autos and concept vehicles. You will also take a look at the HENRY FORD MUSEUM. Ford was born in Dearborn and the city is the world HQ of the Ford Motor Company. Move onwards to Frankenmuth, founded by Bavarian German immigrants in the 1840s, where you will enjoy a BAVARIAN DINNER featuring traditional German food and live entertainment. (B,D)
- DAY 3 - FRANKENMUTH-MACKINAC ISLAND
- Visit Bronner's, the largest Christmas store in the world, and then head north to the shores of Lake Huron to catch the ferry to the 3.8 square mile Mackinac Island, most of which forms the Mackinac Island State Park. Private cars are banned on the island, with bicycles and horse-drawn carriages the main way of getting around. There are also many walking trails across the island and several places where you can even rent rollerblades. (B,D)
Special Feature: Your two-night stay on the historic island will be at the Victorian-style Grand Hotel, which retains its period features and has served as a summer vacation spot for presidents and dignitaries since it opened in 1887.
- DAY 4 - MACKINAC ISLAND; CHOOSE YOUR EXPERIENCE
- Enjoy a horse-drawn CARRIAGE RIDE this morning to see more of this beautiful island. Select how you wish to spend the afternoon as GLOBUS PLATINUM EXCLUSIVE, choosing between an indulgent AFTERNOON TEA accompanied by live chamber music at the Grand Hotel, or taking a HISTORIC TOUR and lunch at Fort Mackinac, which the British built during the American Revolutionary War. - DAY 5 - MACKINAC ISLAND - SAULT STE. MARIE
- Leave Mackinac to travel along Michigan's Upper Peninsula and through Soo Locks on a narrated BOAT TOUR, where you can get a first hand look at the system of locks that link Lake Huron to Lake Superior. The passage sees more cargo traffic each year than the Panama Canal. Learn more about the region's shipping heritage by stepping aboard the museum ship VALLEY CAMP, a retired steam-powered freighter. - DAY 6 - SAULT STE. MARIE - BAY HARBOR
- Drive southwards to Mackinaw City, with a visit to COLONIAL MICHILIMACKINAC to see a reconstructed French fur trading outpost of 1715. The village was later occupied by British soldiers and traders. Continue through the Tunnel of Trees to arrive at the Bay Harbor resort and spend the rest of the day at leisure. (B,D)

- DAY 7 - BAY HARBOR - GRAND RAPIDS
- Michigan is the USA's prime cherry-growing region and you'll visit an orchard to try some fresh cherries or a slice of cherry pie. Stop off next at the THE MUSIC HOUSE for a guided tour of its antique instruments. Head onwards along the shores of Lake Michigan to arrive in Grand Rapids. Upon arrival, enjoy a visit to the GERALD FORD MUSEUM, which has a rich permanent collection as well as fascinating temporary exhibitions based on the vast holdings of the Smithsonian Institution, presidential library system and National Archies. As a finale to your tour, join your tour director and fellow travellers this evening for a GLOBUS FAREWELL CELEBRATION DINNER. (B,D)
- DAY 8 - GRAND RAPIDS - CHICAGO
- Travel from Michigan through northern Indiana and into Chicago, with an orientation tour of America's third largest city. Chicago is a major finanical hub, and home to the Sears Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world. Airport transfers are included to Chicago O'Hare Airport or you could decide to extend your holiday with a stay in a downtown Chicago hotel - please call for options. (B)
