Western Frontiers

From glittering Las Vegas we head into spectacular scenery, taking in Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks before stopping in Salt Lake City. We head into the mountains to Jackson for a taste of a true old west then continue to the geothermal splendours of Yellowstone. Move northwards to the Black Hills to see legendary western towns like Deadwood along with Mount Rushmore as you approach Denver, the Mile High City.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Las Vegas

Arrive in Las Vegas, the 'entertainment capital of the world'. Transfer to your city centre hotel and meet your Tour Director. There will be an early evening Welcome Reception where you can meet your travelling companions.

Day 2 - Las Vegas - Zion National Park - Bryce Canyon National Park

Striking out from Las Vegas, we travel via St George to Zion National Park, one of America's most remarkable landscapes. You'll see its multi-hued weathered rock formations before moving onto Bryce Canyon National Park, known for its eroded sandstone spires, or 'hoodoos', that rise from the floor of its large natural amphitheatre.

Day 3 - Bryce Canyon - Salt Lake City

Heading northwards, we drive to Utah's capital, Salt Lake City. Founded back in 1847 by Mormon Pioneers, led by Brigham Young, the city is the HQ of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and an afternoon city tour will take you to the Salt Lake Tabernacle, Temple Square and the Assembly Hall. In the evening either dine independently or join an optional trip to the home of Brigham Young with dinner at the historic Lion House restaurant.

Day 4 - Salt Lake City - Jackson

We travel from the city to the Oregon Trail, following the banks of the Great Salt Lake. The trail was the only passable route westwards in the 19th century, and today it still takes you in considerably more comfort to Jackson, Wyoming. An old-west town with the Grand Teton mountains rising majestically to its north, we head to a local restaurant in the town square for our evening meal.

Day 5 - Jackson - Grand Teton National Park - Yellowstone National Park

Before we set out from Jackson you can take an optional guided boat trip (seasonal) down the Snake River in the Jackson Hole Valley. Afterwards, we move on through the Grand Teton National Park en route to Yellowstone National Park for a two-night stay. We enter the park via the South Entrance between mid-May and mid-October, weather permitting, while at other times we travel via Idaho to use the West Entrance.

Day 6 - Yellowstone National Park

Spend the day in the park, with sights including the Yellowstone River, Hayden Meadow, Lower Falls, Midway Geyser Basin and Yellowstone's world-famous geothermic hot pools, geysers, fumaroles and mud pots. You'll also see Old Faithful Geyser, which erupts on time almost every hour. The park is also home to plenty of wildlife, including bears, elks and one of the last remaining large buffalo herds.

Day 7 - Yellowstone - Cody - Billings

We leave Yellowstone behind to arrive at the old west town of Cody, named after the famous showman, Buffalo Bill Cody. Visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and then continue to the historic cattle farming town of Billings in the state of Montana.

Day 8 - Billings - Deadwood - Rapid City

First off we stop at the site of General Custer's Last Stand, where you can see the Little Bighorn National Monument which commemorates the fateful events of June 1876 where Custer was defeated by a force of Native Americans lead by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Next, we visit Deadwood in South Dakota, another classic old west town which made famous by the TV series, where a narrated trolley ride introduces you to the town. We drive onwards to Rapid City for a two-night stay in the Black Hills.

Day 9 - Black Hills

Today we experience two monumental sculptures: the Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills, a tribute to Native Americans and then on to Mount Rushmore, showing four American presidents carved out of the rock face.

Day 10 - Rapid City - Denver

Driving into the stands of spruce, ponderosa pines and aspen of the Black Hills National Forest, we reach the prairies of South Dakota and Wyoming. Later, entering Colorado, we arrive at the state's capital, Denver, the Mile-High City. In the evening, join your follow travelers to toast your trip at a Farewell Dinner.

Day 11 - Denver - return flight

Take the complimentary transfer to Denver Airport at the end of your tour.
