The Colours of New England tour travels by deluxe motorcoach to visit the best the region has to offer, starting in historic Boston before moving south to Rhode Island and Cape Cod. You can visit the pristine island of Martha’s Vineyard before heading to the Connecticut River Valley, the Berkshires, and through quintissential Vermont villages to the Green Mountains and on to the White Mountains and Western Lakes of Maine. On the way there’ll be stops at the mountain resort of Stowe, rural Woodstock and lakeside Burlington, before you head into Franconia Notch State Park and Cannon Mountain. Wind your way through the Kancamagus Highway to Portland for a New England Clambake, then return to Boston via the attractive resort of Kennebunkport.

Start your day exploring the history of Boston on foot, along the Freedom Trail, one of America’s most famous footpaths. Lunch in one of Boston’s many restaurants (not included); and then enjoy some leisure time on your own, perhaps browsing the shops of Quincy Market. Head on south to Plymouth, the arrival point of the Pilgrims to the New World, and see Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower. Continue on to Cape Cod where you will overnight.

Cape Cod – Newport – Connecticut River Valley
Today you will visit the smallest state of the Union, Rhode Island. Head for the former playground of the Astors and the Vanderbilts and all the rich and famous families that made Newport their homes in the late 19th century. Visit one of the opulent cottages to catch a glimpse of the lavish lifestyle of the privileged of a bygone era (admission included). Continue on to the Connecticut River Valley where you will overnight.

Connecticut River Valley – Berkshires – Green Mountains
Continue to the Berkshires, one of Massachusetts’ most picturesque regions and visit the Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield. Member numbers of the religious group of the celibate “Shaking Quakers” have dwindled from some 6,000 in the 19th century to less than five followers today. Afterwards turn north and continue to discover the lovely small villages of southern Vermont. Visit the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site and sample some of Vermont’s local cheese. Before your day comes to an end, stop by the quintessential New England village of Woodstock.

Green Mountains – Burlington – Stowe – White Mountains
Small villages complete with white church steeples and covered bridges dot the landscape today, offering a panorama worthy of a million postcards. This is New England as you imagined it! Travel through the dense hardwood forests of Vermont to Burlington on Lake Champlain. Continue to Stowe, a classic 200-year-old mountain resort village with Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. Afterwards head on for today’s destination, the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

White Mountains – Portland, ME
Visit Franconia Notch State Park, home to the Flume Gorge and ascend onboard the aerial tram to the 4,180 foot summit of Cannon Mountain (included). Continue on the Kancamagus Highway, weaving through the White Mountains with its unparalleled vistas. Continue your journey through the Western Lakes region of Maine to Portland, the state’s largest city.

Portland, ME – Boston
Depart Portland and make a stop in Kennebunkport. Continue to Portsmouth, the oldest community in New Hampshire, known for its thriving fishing community and historic buildings. For lunch today, enjoy a typical regional speciality, the New England Clambake (included). Wind along the coast and make a stop at Cape Neddick’s Lighthouse. Then travel to Salem, famous for its witchcraft trials of the 17th century. Return to Boston at approximately 6pm.
Independent transfers back to the airport for your return flight.
